Battery-powered equipment is now practical, reliable, and cost-effective for commercial-scale landscaping, helping crews significantly reduce both noise pollution and harmful emissions.
While there is broad agreement on the need for quieter, cleaner lawn-care practices, landscape companies—essential partners in this transition—can face significant challenges. They need time to replace existing equipment, and the upfront cost of professional-grade battery equipment can be particularly difficult for small businesses. But rising gasoline prices have given electrics a big advantage: It’s cheaper to charge a battery than to fill up a fuel tank
To help accelerate this transition, we urge the Ontario and Toronto governments to establish an equipment-replacement rebate program similar to California’s CORE program, which provides incentives of up to $1,500 toward the purchase of battery-powered blowers, or vouchers for professional-grade cordless electric landscape equipment.
The following companies have already recognized the health, environmental, and economic benefits of transitioning to zero-emission mowing and maintenance equipment. Many landscaping workers come from lower-income backgrounds, making safer and cleaner working conditions especially important.
